You are Out of this World

In 2018, one of our family adventures took us to the Museum of Science in Boston, MA. In 5th grade, Caleb had to research a state and create a travel brochure for that state. Caleb studied Massachusetts, and in his list of attractions he noted the New England Aquarium, Quincey Market and the Museum of Science. I suggested to Jim that we take the kids there for the weekend and we had a lot of fun!
These photos were from the Museum of Science. There were so many interesting exhibits that we had not seen before, and the scrapbooker in me was happy because there were actually signs and footprints on the floor showing you where to stand for a photo op.
The kids were more than willing to pose for me at this location. They loved the illusion of being able to hold up the world. And then Caleb, my little jokester, insisted he could hold the world up with one finger.
If Caleb had not done that school project, I wouldn't have thought to plan a trip to this museum. I'm so glad we went - we made some funny memories that have become our own private jokes - and as a blended family I think it is so important to have these shared experiences.
Scrapbooking Tips
Although I had so many photos from this museum, I chose to do a single page layout with just these three full-size photos. Inspiration for a layout can come at the most unexpected times and places. As I was sorting through my photos from this trip, a page title came to mind - You are Out of This World. It fit the photos, but also fit how I as parent feel about my kids! It was perfect. The space theme also fit with other pictures I took at the Space Exploration exhibit, so I could use the same papers and embellishments creating some continuity among my layouts.

My starting point was an Allison Davis sketch. I followed the sketch closely and laid out my photos and embellishments. What drew me to that particular sketch was it showed three full size 4x6" photos. I didn't want to trim down or crop any of these photos. I also thought the circle embellishments she used were perfect for the galactic/planetary/outer space elements I wanted to use. I fussy cut planets from one of the pattern papers in the Echo Park paper collection I was using. Then I used a 3D Earth sticker from Paper House Productions to put in the center of the largest circle in this cluster. I also followed my sketch where it suggested additional stitching. I used my dotted circle dies from The Stamps of Life to cut those circles, poked holed through the dots and stitched in a coordinating teal-ish blue thread to compliment the orange and navy blue.

I kept my journaling simple because there are multiple layouts from this museum in our family album. I wanted just the general information on the layout so at a glance I can tell where we were. Overall, I am very pleased with how this layout looks. I love the kids' smiles and the memories it brings back.
If you have never used a sketch as a starting point for your scrapbooking layouts, you can access many free sketches online. My favorite sketches are from Scrapbook Generation. Another great (free!) resource for sketches is Page Maps. If you struggle with getting started when you sit down to scrapbook, I highly recommend using a sketch. It will unlock so much crea
