1 Page Kit - 3 Looks

One of the ways that I stretch my creativity is to use page kits. At first I thought that it was “cheating,” having the design preplanned and colors coordinated, but then I created a challenge for myself and found that this really helps me when I’m in a creative slump!

I purchased the same page kit from Scrapbook Generation - but I got it in 3 different color palettes. However, I did not want to have three pages that were identical in my albums. So, I decided I was going to come up with different looks for each page.

The layout that looks most like the suggested photo on the kit is the one I did of Alyssia for Decision Day. I used one photo and positioned it to the right of the pre-printed circle wreath. The color combination was green, yellow, and red. This was absolutely perfect for my single photo, and the green and yellow matched Clarkson University’s colors.

I left out the red stars and embellishments and I was going to cover the red pre-printed dots, but I really liked the little pop of color, so I left them as is. None of the pre-printed titles matched, so I pulled the Pizza Party collection from SG, which used a similar color palette, and using my silhouette Cameo, I die cut a title. Some of the stars from that collection matched so I added them to the wreath. I loved the completed look, and it came together quickly.

For my second layout I had three 4x3 photos that I wanted to use. I used each photo mat in the kit and lined my photos on the right side of the wreath. If I use photo mats, I don’t typically use multiple colors, but I really liked the look of it here because that was what was included, and my photos were darker. The bright colored mats really made the photos pop!

I put the title strip across the photos, used one of the journaling spots from the kit. I stitched on some of the stars and layered smaller stars in the center of the bigger stars. Again, it was a quick layout! Even with the stitching it took less than an hour to complete.

My third layout took the most creative energy. I had one photo of the boys ready to go to Comic-Con and I thought the colors of this kit worked really well with my photo. I knew that I did not want to attach it to the right side of the layout. The photo mats were too small for my photo, and I did not want to trim down my photo because I wanted to layer the stars and arrows on top of the photo, and I needed the white space. But I couldn’t shake the feeling that I wanted a photo mat. This is where I got creative!

There were six different 12x1/2” border strips, so I cut them down to 4 1/2” and adhered them down on the base page to create a mat. I liked the colorful effect! There was also a border of tickets on the cut-out sheet. I carefully fussy cut them apart and then adhered them to the right of the photo to help fill up the white space in the center of the wreath. Every other ticket I adhered with foam adhesive to create dimension.

I attached my stars in a visual triangle and then added some arrow embellishments. Part of the reason I layered them where I did was to draw the eye to the Caleb’s “costume”. He was going as Nathan Drake from the Uncharted games, and I had to make a special trip to a costume store to purchase fake blood and dirt for his face. These details got lost in the photo, so adhering the arrows where I did helps those costume details get noticed.

So, as you can see, I don’t mind purchasing multiples of the same kit! Regardless of how I use them, they come together quickly, and I like the challenge to think outside the box.
