I took these pictures of Caleb "just because." We were at Camp of the Woods and I was taking pictures of both boys and then snapped these when Zach ran off to do something else. I loved Caleb's little smile and also the more serious expressions.
These photos were taken in 2014, and if there was ever a year when our emotions were all over the place, it was then. We were still living in the shock and grief of losing Dave, and to Caleb he was a larger-than-life Daddy. Even though we smiled and laughed that year, there was a deep sadness that all of us were experiencing. His little face expresses what all of us were feeling.
When I was sorting photos for our Camp of the Woods layouts, I almost left these out, but decided to make this layout instead. I don't want to remember the pain, but I want to be proud of how far we've come. Caleb has grown into an amazing, positive young man. He smiles and laughs, and I hardly ever hear him complain. That's why these photos are so powerful when I look back and see how much he has grown and matured.
Scrapbooking Tips

I created this layout using scraps from a Simple Stories paper collection that I was trying to use up. I loved the color palette and pattern paper and I didn't want to waste any of it! I created the title using a Paige Evans cut file. Using my Silhouette Cameo, I cut out "My Boy" in navy blue paper and then backed it with scraps.
I also used scraps to cut hearts to embellish my page - but my favorite embellishments are the tiny two-toned hearts. I fussy cut the hearts out of scraps of pattern paper I had used for the layout background. The layout came together quickly. I did add stitching, but it only added a few extra minutes of time and I really like the finished look.
