While flipping through my piles of printed pictures, I found these photos of Caleb's first time eating Oreo cookies. I love how little he is, and it cracks me up to see the bottom left picture of him dunking his cookie into his milk.

These photos were taken the summer of 2008 - and Caleb would have been about 18 months old. I had heard my mom repeatedly say, "It's more caught than taught," when it comes to parenting. I definitely learned that lesson this night.

After dinner Dave pulled out a couple cookies and Caleb's face lit up seeing them. Even back then he was a chocolate lover! Caleb took a bite while watching his daddy first dunk his cookie into a glass of milk before eating it. He stared transfixed as Dave dunked his cookie again. At that point, Caleb put down his cookie and motioned and babbled for the milk. He then proceeded to dunk his cookie exactly as he had seen Dave dunk his! He even held his cookie the same way. He then went on to dunk his cookie for every bite. True to Caleb's style though, he did not like to have dirty hands, so once the soggy cookie was too messy, Dave had to hold it for him as you can see in the top middle photo.

Of course, I had my camera close by and I snapped these pictures. However, the lesson was not lost on me that little eyes were watching our every move. At least in this case, he was adorable!

Scrapbooking Tips:

When I came across these photos, this design popped in my head. I often make layouts with some type of grid design. I remembered seeing some cookie cut files on the Silhouette Studio Design Store. I purchased the design that looked most like an Oreo and cut six of them about 3" around. To make it look like some cookies had a bite taken out of them, I placed a scalloped circle die cut over the edge of the cookie and ran it through my manual die cutting machine.

To get my photos in a perfect circle, I used my wafer-thin circle dies from The Stamp of Life. When cutting photos into shapes, I prefer to use my manual die cutting machine. This way I have more control of what will be cut.

To add color to this layout, I trimmed down the cream pattern paper I was using and mounted it on a plaid sheet of paper. I thought the colors not only were boyish but also had a summer feel because it was obviously a hot summer day when these pictures were taken. I really like the cranberry red color in the plaid and decided to make it my accent color. Using my Silhouette Cameo again, I cut my title and some accent hearts out of cranberry cardstock from The Stamps of Life. To complete the look, I stitched a red border just on the inside of the cream colored paper. The final touch to the layout was some Nuvo drops that I shaped into hearts.

I love the finished design! It has a different, more playful feel to it in comparison to my other layouts which I felt matched the mood of these photos . . . and those die cut cookies look good enough to eat!
