"Glubs"

There's nothing like watching a little child play in the snow - but that only comes after the process of getting ready to play in the snow! Late last March, here in upstate NY, we welcomed spring with a snowstorm! The day after the storm the sun came out giving us a great day to take Azzy outside to play in the snow.

It was a process getting not only ourselves but almost-two-year-old Azzy ready for the cold. We did a quick diaper change, changed her out of her princess dress, put on her warm clothes and then her snowsuit. Then I got ready to go outside while Pappa went to find the sled. Once my coat was on, I carefully slipped Azzy's hands into mittens and asked, "Are you ready to go out and play in the snow?" I will never forget her reply. . . .

With all seriousness she held up her mitten-clad hands and all she said was, "Glubs." I wasn't fast enough to capture her with her little hands up, but I got a picture of her in her snowsuit and "glubs," and I continue to smile at this memory.

Scrapbooking Tips and Tricks

The inspiration for the design of this layout was actually a sheet of pattern paper covered in mittens from Photo Play’s Snow Day collection. I absolutely LOVED this collection because of the blues and pinks they blended together in a winter palette which matched well with pictures of Azzy in her pink snowsuit.

I really wanted to do a wreath design because I was using a sketch from the Allison Davis Design Concepts Class for Wreaths but the pattern paper didn’t work if I cut it down into a wreath. I thought of maybe fussy cutting the mittens and forming a wreath using the just the cut pieces, but the mittens were too tiny to effectively build a wreath the size I felt I needed.

My solution was to cut a wreath on my Silhouette Cameo and decorate it with my fussy cut mittens. I tried to pay attention to the direction and color of the mittens to give it a random appearance. Then I filled in gaps with acrylic snowflakes that had come in my The Stamps of Life card kit.

There was still something missing though, even after adding the mittens and snow flakes. My solution was to dig through my scraps and using a tiny circle punch, I punched the itsy bitsy snowflakes from the same pattern paper as the mittens. That filled in the wreath perfectly!

For some added texture and dimension, I added Nuvo Dream Drops to the center of the snowflakes.

One of my all-time favorite title tricks is to quote the cute things my kids and now granddaughter says. I love the mispronounced words when they are just learning how to speak. So my title for this layout was “Glubs” - how Azzy pronounced “gloves.” It's even cuter when you realize that she is wearing mittens and not gloves.

I was super happy with the finished look, and love the memories this photo brings to mind!
