I have mentioned in a previous blog post how excited I was to attend We Create 2022, and here is another layout from that weekend. Without a doubt, meeting Allison Davis and the rest of the Scrapbook Generation family was the highlight.

My first introduction to Allison Davis was seeing her layouts in Creating Keepsakes magazine back in 2009. What drew me to her layouts was the fact that they were boy themed and, crazy as it sounds, she used a lot of striped paper. My eye was immediately drawn to her pages. I love her style because it is photo heavy, but she does not sacrifice any design. The photos and her journaling are the focus of her layouts, and the design is the icing on the cake.

When you look at someone’s scrapbook layouts, I feel like you get a window into their life, their priorities, and their thoughts that you would never know otherwise. I’ve been following her for so long I feel like I have watched her two boys grow up. Having sons myself, I love her boy layout pages and just her thoughts on being a boy mom. It has shaped my scrapbooking approach and style so much. I have learned so much from her.

With my friend Lisa there with a camera ready to take our picture, I introduced myself to Allison and asked her to pose with me. Over the weekend I had a few conversations with her and took five classes. I was surprised that she was so quiet and unassuming.

Lisa told me I was a fan girl of Allison’s and I admit it. I had a list of questions that I wanted to ask her such as, “Where do you get your inspiration?” and “What do you do when you are in a creative rut?” Seeing as I love her finished product, it made sense to learn as much as I could from her and I sure did.

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Allison, Stacey, Debbie, Karin and Allison’s boys Drew and Jackson, but was only brave enough to ask Allison to pose for a photo with me. I don’t want to appear like a stalker - because really, I’m not!

I did tell her a story though and I think this sums up my respect for her. Caleb, my Star Wars lover, asked me why I talked about Allison Davis so much. I told him, “For me, Allison is to scrapbooking what George Lucas was to Star Wars.” Caleb then proceeded to yell to Zach, “Mom’s meeting the George Lucas of scrapbooking!” She laughed at that and then told me to send her the picture of us together - she wanted to scrapbook that story.

I’d like to think that everyone has someone they look up to as a teacher. I just had the amazing privilege of getting to meet mine . . . and of course I scrapbooked it!

Scrapbooking Tips

I used the papers created by Debbie Sanders for We Create and an Allison Davis sketch which made this layout come together quickly!

All the cameras, hearts and tickets were designed for this event so they matched perfectly.

One of the tags said, “My Favorite Moments” and I thought that was absolutely appropriate for this layout. I was happy with using that phrase strip as my title. Overall, this was a fun layout to put together and I love the happy feel with the bright colors.
