This layout was inspired by one of my brother-in-law’s Facebook posts. He had taken a picture of JJ, Jude, and Zach back in 2016 and then posed them again earlier this year. He then posted the two photos side-by-side on Facebook. I commented on his post, "I see a future scrapbook layout.” Then inspiration struck in a Scrapbook and Cards online class I was taking. I set aside the layout that I had been working on to tackle this one.

Photos like these remind me why I scrapbook - time moves so fast and I want to remember the little moments that slip through my fingers. I love the relationship these three cousins have. Zach is two and a half years older than JJ and Jude, but you’d never know it! I love watching all their antics and seeing the bond between them. These photos deserved their own layout, and I was only too happy to get creative.

Scrapbooking Tips

If you are a scrapbooker that has never used sketches, you should check out Sketches 2024 from Scrapbook and Cards Today. Allison Davis walks you through the process and provides you with more creative ideas than you could use in a lifetime! I have been using her sketches for fifteen years, and I am still learning so much!

I followed the May 2024 sketch pretty closely because it had this background of triangles, and to me they looked like the triangles I see on rewind and fast forward buttons on a remote control. That’s what inspired my title and embellishments. I thought it played well into the concept of time flying. It seemed like just yesterday the boys were little; now they are 13 and 15.

For the title I used dimensional Thickers in a woodgrain pattern that coordinated well with the pattern papers. Because the background was so busy, I kept my embellishments very minimal. I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out fast forward “buttons” in orange paper. I backed the buttons with brown woodgrain paper to tie in the title.

One thing I did on this layout that I do not typically do was split my journaling. I didn’t have a whole lot to say, but I could not find an aesthetic way to arrange the journaling strips. To put them on the bottom right corner, like the sketch suggested, made the layout feel unbalanced. My solution was to put half of the journaling on the top left of the photos to create balance.

This layout was a labor of love. It took a lot of time to get those triangles cut and placed evenly on the layout. It was worth the effort though. It made a special backdrop for some special photos.
