In spring of 2016, while Alexis was competing in a wrestling tournament in Springfield, MA, the younger three kids and I went on an adventure to find the science museum and the Dr. Seuss Sculpture Garden. This little park was so much fun. You can see in the photos, there were life size (or close to it) statues of Dr Seuss, the Grinch, the Lorex and other much loved Seuss characters. I took so many photos, and after weeding many out, I still had enough pictures to create three double page layouts.

I did not add much journaling and kept almost all the photos 4x6 or 6x4. There was so much detail I did not want to trim anything out. So here are the three layouts I did with added commentary on why I scrapbooked them this way.

Scrapbooking Tips:

Creative Titles

I had so much fun creating this title! I googled Dr. Seuss quotes and when I stumbled on this one, it was like a lightbulb went off over my head. "Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one," perfectly summed up this day. This quote had double duty - it was my title and journaling.

I purchased and downloaded a font from the Silhouette Design Studio. I thought it was fun and childish, and exactly like something you would see in a Dr. Seuss book. I sized it to fit in the blue border and then got to work gluing. It took me a little time to get the title just right, but I loved the results.

Embellishments

One of my scrapping friends told me about the website scrapyourtrip.com. This site is amazing for unique scrapbooking products. You can get all sorts of travel, Disney, Legos, Star Wars, Pirate, Sports, Harry Potter, Wedding, Baby, etc. paper and embellishments. I get many hunting papers and embellishments for my husband's album and used a ton of their Disney stuff. If you can imagine it - they seem to have it! On this site I found some Dr. Seuss papers and embellishments. This is where I found the "Oh the Places You Go" embellishment and coordinating paper. They also had coordinating paper in fun Seussical colors and patterns. I purchased them with these layouts in mind.

However, when I got ready to actually put together the layouts, the patterns were so busy to work with! It was hard to trim them down because then you would miss out on some of the colors, and the patterns didn't look like much of anything. My work-around for this came from an Allison Davis sketch. I saw that she had a background created with strips of paper. I cut strips out of the patterned paper and alternated with solid colors. I was pleased with the finished look.

For this layout, I was able to cut out the iconic Cat in the Hat embellishments on my Silhouette. I had originally cut out three hoping to create a visual triangle on my page, but it didn't look right, and I didn't want to distract from my title.

To break up the pattern paper on this background, I created a grid of photos. The photos cover a lot of the page and the banners to the right help break it up even more. The cute Lorax and Truffula trees were all the embellishments I felt this page could handle.

To Journal or Not to Journal?

Because my layouts were so busy, I did not journal. When I have a layout where I am opting out of journaling, I will write the date or anything else I don't want to forget on the back of the layout in pencil. That way the information is there, just not displayed.
