CHICAGO

Here is another Broadway inspired layout. I absolutely love that three of our four kids liked participating in drama club, but for this scrapbooking mother, that means I have a lot of layouts that have the same theme and similarly posed photos of Alyssia and the boys, times four years of High School. I’m always up for the creative challenge, however, and here are the photos of Caleb and Zach performing in Chicago - hamming it up and giving it their all!
Scrapbooking Tips
To keep my layouts fresh and creative I pull my inspiration from the Broadway posters for the show. I’ll do a google search and browse through the images and playbills to come up with my color scheme, any iconic images (think Hamilton!), and even fonts. I’ll also check Silhouette Design Studio to see if there are any licensed images I can die cut.

What made it hard for this particular play, is the promotional materials for the play Chicago are pretty much just the word “Chicago” against a solid black background. I decided that the base page of all my layouts for the play photos would be black. This helps give multiple layouts on the same subject a consistent feel.
I had so many photos that I wanted to include, so I resized them to 3x4 and printed two photos per 6x4 print. Then I trimmed them down to 3x3 so I could fit more photos on the page. I chose a sketch from Allison Davis’ Month in Review collection which you can purchase from Scrapbook Generation. I love these sketches because she has so many ways you can show multiple photos and not sacrifice creativity.
One interesting thing to note about these layouts, I used pattern papers from Scrapbook Generation’s Pizza Party paper line! The black, green, red, white and golds in that collection perfectly matched the colors in the photos. I was working on a completely different layout and the green reminded of the stage curtain at school and when I pulled out my photos it was a match made in heaven. I’ll admit, since making this layout, I’m looking at my paper stash with all new eyes.

To break up the rows of pictures there is a visual triangle created between the embellishments and journaling box.
As much as I like how the design came together, my favorite parts are the photos. I love seeing the passion in Caleb and Zach's faces! This was such an amazing experience for them and I feel like it shows in their photos.
